Sustainability
Making an Impact Facility Matrix Group can help you create an interior that helps your organization be more effective – while protecting the environment.
Our focus on the environment is deeply rooted in the fundamental business principals of Herman Miller, our parent company. With a half a century old commitment to acting as a steward of the environment, HMI is leading the industry in innovative strategies for protecting natural resources, creating a healthier workplace and ensuring environmental sustainability.
These strategies encompass every aspect of a product – from actual product design to materials used to manufacturing processes to transportation to recycling. Herman Miller is working to reduce the environmental impact of every stage of a product's life. Its efforts have resulted in many milestone certifications: for example, the Mirra Chair® chair was the first product ever to receive MBDC’s coveted Cradle to CradleSM Product Certification.
Green choices Whether you have just begun to explore ways to protect the environment through green product choices, or are pursuing LEED certification for your facility, FMG brings the necessary product portfolio and experience. Green Products Facility Matrix Group and Herman Miller can help you ensure a greener tomorrow. Learn how the products you select for your workplace can have a significant impact on the environment:
Furniture
- Creates a healthy work environment Herman Miller products are designed with user health in mind. For example, powder-coated steel and water-based glue and finishes are virtually VOC-free.
- Protects natural resources Herman Miller wood suppliers are regularly audited for environmental performance, while particle board components are made from 100% post-industrial recycled wood fiber. And products have a high steel content, which has less environmental impact than competitor products with higher plastic and aluminum content.
- Reduces waste Many products, like Herman Miller system solutions, are designed to be fully reusable. Whenever possible, Herman Miller uses recycled materials as well as materials that can be recycled at the end of a product's use. Customers can also leverage the Herman Miller “Green Team” a program to find an environmentally responsible method for disposing of a product.
Raised Access Flooring
Increases energy efficiency An access floor enables under-floor air distribution, which requires lower air pressure and less fan usage.
- Improves air quality Hot, stale air and contaminants rise to the ceiling and are pushed out by clean air.
- Reduces waste -Flooring components can be removed and reused elsewhere.
Moveable/Demountable Walls
- Reduces construction waste Moveable and demountable walls eliminate the need for demolition when changes are needed.
- Supports recycling Herman Miller moveable walls contain recycled content – and are recyclable.
- Protects health A healthier alternative to paint, Herman Miller moveable walls contain no offgassing volatile organic compounds (VOCs). In addition, they contain no PVCs.
- Decreases lighting demand Thoughtful use of wall glass creates an elegant look – and helps to distribute natural light throughout an interior.
Modular Wiring/Cabling Solutions
- Reduces waste Designed to snap together and apart easily, modular wiring and cabling components can be reused again and again.
Lighting
- Reduces energy consumption Through occupancy sensors, load shedding and other controls, innovative lighting solutions maximize use of daylight and reduce lighting when not
